St. Joe is dead end and disgustingly filthy. Not my choice!

I have lived in St. Joe for 16 years now and have been delivering pizza for 4 of them so I know all neighborhoods very well. I must say that there really is only just one bad neighborhood that you should try to avoid and that is anything around Messanie St. from 9th St. all the way up to 22nd. We don't even deliver pizza to most of that area after dark. Other than that everything else for the most part is completely safe. South End is alright if you can get past the terrible smell and living around all of the factories. You'll want to try to stay on the East side of 22nd St. North End is good. The best areas are going to be Stonecrest of course, an area called 'The Zoo" is close by and also good as well as anything around County Line Rd and Deer Park. As far as schools, some schools are better than others. Hall, Mark Twain, and Skaith are good. Try to avoid Edison and Lake Contrary. Central High is good. We don't truly have specialized gifted schools. We do have Catholic and Christian private schools. There are also some really nice cozy towns around the St. Joe area also worth looking into...Savannah, Gower, Platte City. A useful tool in your search would be Google Maps. Good luck in your endeavors

I've lived in St. Joe for the last year and a half and grew up in a farm town very close. I have yet to see a "bad" neighborhood in town. The "Weed and Seed" area is the "rough" part and that's nothing. Messanie St.'s mid-town area is part of that. I can't say I'd want to buy a house there or hang around there a whole lot, but if you're walking or driving through and aren't causing any problems, I can't imagine any problems will find you.

The north shopping area is a much needed improvement and is nice, but the town has a lot of idiocy to overcome. I'd move to northern KC area instead. You still get a good dose of white trash, but not as much as you find in St. Joe. If you move to St. Joe, make sure to get you a pair of overalls for your fine Sunday clothes.
Also, as far as the people being nice - don't buy into that bs. People in St. Joe, KC, etc... are buying into the theory of "them there people is out to get me!" Basically, St. Joe and KC are in the shape they are in today due to St. Louis weighted state legislature and the southern and western part of the state getting a majority of education and improvement dollars. People in the south part of the state complain about not getting enough money, but they get two to three times per student compared to our area. It is almost to the point of "if you can't be 'em, join 'em."
As you can tell by now, I am a disgruntled NWMO resident. I want St. Joe to be a nice place, but it isn't. I want KC to be a nice place, but it isn't yet. Development does not change people as some (including myself) used to think. It is all about me me me and I am about to have enough. If you are a young couple starting a family, find another area.

After reading this, I can only conclude that you are an extremely miserable and unhappy person. St. Joseph may not be the most progressive community in the world, and you may not find it ranked among the top communities in Money Magazine, but this community has actually been ranked as one of the most livable cities in the nation due to low crime rate, affordable cost of living, etc. And people here generally are pretty nice; just like anywhere else you will find people who are good and people who are unpleasant.
As for your statement about people in St. Joe wearing nothing but overalls for "Sunday clothes", that is total nonsense. I have lived here for 19 years and residents here dress in the same types of clothing that people everywhere else do. And there are no more people here with the "them there people is out to get me" mindset than there are anywhere else.
I strongly suggest that you chill out and get a life. St. Joseph is a great place to live and the vast majority of citizens here know so.

There are some bad neighborhoods; I'm a native. That area around Messanie has been pretty bad for at least 30 years, maybe more
