Wisconsin county roads are often named by letter, too, and then the system starts over when you enter into a new county.

People in small towns around Kansas City do this, too. I'm not sure what its distribution is like across the rest of the state, though.

Yes, I thought washroom sounded so strange the first time I heard someone say it!

I've heard people from St. Louis refer to U.S. 40 as 40 highway, except it sounds like they are saying "Farty highway". "Take the fark in the road at farty highway and we'll stop and have a sundeh and and soda."

Or are they "Hoosiers"? This is a peculiar St. Louis term for hillbillies or rednecks. The rest of the country uses the term to refer to people from Indiana.

I'm sorry but this is a dumb conversation. Whether you call it 40, 40 highway, or highway 40 it all means the same thing. Why does it matter?

Oh c'mon, didn' you realize that St. Louis is head and shoulders better than Kansas City?

I'm with you RjRobb2, who cares!

Do you guys call them Outer or Frontage roads? This is a big difference between St. Louis and Chicago (as well as gym vs. tennis shoes, soda vs. pop and pavilion vs. shelter). Kansas Citians say shelter too right?

It's a Missouri thing; at least in the western half of the state.

I don't think it was a southern twang KCRichard was referring to. I have relatives who live in the north county area who talk like exactly that (farty), and if anything, their accents sound like a variation of a Chicago accent. Not remotely southern in any way.

The real question is, why did you use "weirdly" in such a way? It just sounds like your question was worded in an odd manner, yet the question was making fun of how something is worded.
