Does anyone remember this restaurant from the '70s?
Or maybe the late 1960s...we went there when I was a kid. All I remember is that it may have had the word "Gold" in its name and it may have had a treasure chest of plastic trinkets--I can't remember if we got to keep one or just gaze upon them. I remember--I think--waiting in line, so perhaps it was a cafeteria? We lived in Waldo, if that helps.
Thanks, everyone, in advance!

That was the Gold Buffet in North Kansas City. The building also housed the NKC Pro Bowling lanes. The Gold Buffet featured not only the buffet, but Las Vegas style entertainment, with performers such as Red Skelton and Foster Brooks. Mr. Myers also owned the Gold Buffet in Winterset, Iowa.

You're welcome! It was a nice place to go; all you could eat shrimp, seafood, and the standing baron of beef, carved to your liking. BTW, you did get to keep the "gold' rings from the treasure chest!

Different strokes for different folks! Me brudder and i watched those commercials for years as kids and never got to go there. When we did; we were terribly disappointed. 1. A sign on the wall stating that you might be charged extra if seen wasting food. 2. Crab legs-The old witch that owned the place would make you stand and wait before she would come out from the kitchen and give you two or maybe thee crab legs. Suprised that she didn't want the serial numbers off each leg. 3. COLD! We went in the winter time and the place about froze us to death. 4. The bathroom was shared with the bowling alley and was totally filthy and that would be the toilets and the floor as well and it was even colder than the restaurant. A shame on KCM imo. glad it is gone!

We always had a good meal and service in the years we went to the GB. "Old witch"? Maybe she saw you wasting food and decided you and your brudder didn't need anymore crab legs.

Like i said SIR! Different strokes for different folks. No we were not wasting any food and she was a stingy old witch with the crab legs. The sign was on the wall for all to see. That in it's self should be very telling to anyone reading this thread. A cold restaurant and a shared filthy bathroom. A good deal for you sir because you won't see me going back to any place like that. Thus it will leave you plenty of room and food. Please don't trash the bathroom! lol

You had a bad experience and so that justifies name calling. You had a bad experience and that makes you an authority on the 30+ years of service, thousands of satisfied customers, and a venue that provided great entertainment. I never remember the place being cold or the bathrooms being dirty, so they must have seated trouble makers by the door and directed you to the bowling alley bathrooms.

Like i said "different strokes for different folks". Who am i calling names? What entertainment? You weren't cold because you were not there in the winter i presume. Yes the bathrooms were dirty(male bathroom) You are the one doing the insinuating about me being a troublemaker.
I guess i will just add you to my ignorte list and there is not a thing you can do about it!
YOU are ignored! lol

Go ahead and ignore me, make my day. Referring to a woman as a "witch" is name calling. Yes, there was entertainment. It was one of the last of the "super clubs", featuring Las Vegas style shows. Most anyone who appeared in Vegas also appeared at the GB.
