My husband currently lives in a small one bedroom apartment in the Northland. He was laid off of his job back in Illinois last fall and was lucky enough to find a job elsewhere (KC, MO).

Soon, myself and my 3 year old daughter will be moving down to join him. I needed to stay back last year to finish out my job as a teacher.

We will be looking for a new place to rent, preferably a house in a low crime, family friendly area.

I have looked on Craigslist and Reece and Nichols, but was wondering if there may be any other known websites that we can start looking through for a rental property. Wish we could buy, but because of the market up in Chicago - we havent been able to sell.

Thanks!

hmmm I don't know where to look other then criagslist for renting a house. Wish you could buy, one thing I notice in KC if you are looking to buy a house you will pay a lot less then renting, renting works best if its an apartment/townhouse/condo here from what i've seen.

Areas to look at are: Gladstone, Liberty, Kansas City north, Waldo, Brookside, Lee's Summit, North Kansas City (not the same as KC north LOL), Parkville...

I can't speak much on the KS side, if its in JoCo its pretty much all the same anywhere you go... prob its good and bad areas but I couldn't tell you any of them

kansas city northland - apartments for rent - backpage.com

You can go to the Pitch website. It's mostly in the urban core, but there will be some northland stuff in there.

Here is another. For some reason the first home is in Brookside.

http://www.rentalhomesplus.com/Resul..._Maximum=99999

All homes in Kansas City North, Gladstone and most of the Liberty and Parkville areas have an address that starts with NE or NW. Anything north of the river will usually have North, NE or NW before the street except in older parts of Liberty or Parkville. South of the river will be E or W, but many times, the E and W are omitted. It all means x number of blocks north or south of the river and x number of blocks east or west of Main Street. The reason is many of the same streets cross the river, so 63rd and Oak south of the river is differnt than 63rd and North Oak. 95th and NE Troost is a very nice area. 95th and E Troost. Not so much. NW is generally Platte County and NE is generally Clay County. Anything in the 5000 block or higher (50th Street) will tend to be pretty nice although the Northland really doesn't have a ghetto, just older, smaller homes and a few flaky apartment complexes can be found in the southern parts of Clay County. Anything in the 80th St to the 130's is probably less then ten years old. Just FYI so you can get a better idea of where homes are when looking at listings.
