Hi. I was wondering what options are there in Kansas city for an internet connection. Is there only one big company that has the market cornered for high speed cable internet or do we have some variety? How much should I expect to pay each month? thanks!

Depending on your area & what kind of high speed you are looking for, your options are pretty much:

Cable Broadband
Time Warner/Roadrunner
Comcast

Depending your package you are looking at anywhere from $34 (what we pay w/ a bundled package of digital cable, internet, and digital phone) to $55 (paying for it w/o any other bundled package).

DSL
AT&T/SouthwesternBell

I couldn't even begin to tell you your pricing because I much prefer Broadband.

Sprint now offers wireless broadband, which is around $60 (unless you have family who works for them, then you might be able to slide in w/ the friends/family packages for around $30).

Then you also have your typical dial up (AOL, MSN, Earthlink, NetZero...etc.)

As well as satellite, which I recommend just gonig w/ dial up if you are going to do this. Satellite is slow & spotty & expensive.

I have my internet through Everest cable. I got the midrange speed, which is 3Mbps IIRC, and I pay about $34 as an a la carte service. I have been very happy with it so far and highly recommend it.
