Weather is not an isolated thing. It builds from what is going on in other parts of the country and even other parts of the world. So, being specialized in what goes on in a specific area is irrelevant. In fact, it could actually lead you to be less accurate because you arent looking at the big picture. TWC gets all their info from the National Weather Service who monitors the weather for the entire world, not just one region. If you start using weather.com, you will find it to be far more accurate than any of the local newscasters.

I worked in community journalism for years, and I much prefer a local news focus, myself.

Of course weather is not an isolated thing, and local weather people talk about everything that's going on, from Alaska to Baja and all points east. The National Weather Service and TWC aren't about to look closely at nuances in weather models to do detailed forecasts for every area of the country. That's what local meteorologists are for.
