Favorite Fall Activties around KC
I love the fall. That being said I am starting to plan our weekends and I want to be out and about town. I would love to hear other's plans so we're sure not to miss anything.
Love to go to Fall Festival in Liberty, weekend of Sept 25th. I've been going since I was a tot and have only missed a few years.
I also want to go to Stephenson's Orchard to let my girls pick apples one weekend.
Then there is the pumpkin patch, not sure which one. We never seem to make it since the schools all go on field trips before I have a chance to take the girls.
And I'm sure we'll do a hay ride somewhere, but I'm not sure where they have them now.
We also have to figure out what to for halloween. We usually go to Town Center or Brookside and walk around the shops.
So, what does everyone else have planned for the fall?

Definitely apple pick'n at Stephenson. I can't believe that place is still around - I did that as a kid. It is truly a treasure.
Fall Fun Fest in Blue Springs. I think they do a great job.
Not going, but there's also Santa-Cali-gon days in Independence.
There's the Plaza Art Fair. And the Westport Art Fair.
CHIEFS games. And KU (yay!) and Mizzou (boo!) look pretty good this year.
Going to Haunted Houses in the West Bottoms.
I love fall - definitely my favorite season!

Gladfest which is Gladstone's annual festival that happens the first weekend of October.
The fall is the best time of year to go to the Zoo. It is not too hot or too cold for all the animals to be out.

I'm a small town person with a soft spot for small town festivals, so we tend to use the fall to get out of the city and back to my roots, so to speak, if not all the way to my home state. We generally go to the Apple Festival and Irish Festival in Weston, the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin City, and go to at least one pumpkin patch/cornmaze/cider mill.
In town, last year we did two of the haunted houses in the West Bottoms, which was fun. Also often go the Plaza and Westport Art Fairs. The autumn is by far my favorite time of year to be out and about.

We are heading to KC this weekend to do haunted houses, and Rennaisance Festival. In a few more weeks we will be back for Fright Nights at World's of Fun and possibly Phantom Feaste. Have always wanted to try a corn maze....

wow, you all are a great source of info!
I havent been to the haunted houses in the West bottoms in almost 10 years. At 30 am I too old to do that anymore?
However I did do the World's of Fun halloween thing a few years back and had a blast.
I forget about Weston. I think they also have a first friday's event in the fall. may be other times of the year as well, I'm not sure.
We ventured to Independence for Santa-Cali-Gon last week. They always have great food, best kettle corn I've ever tasted.

When I was 30, I went back to the haunted houses. It just wasn't the same. $20 for something that takes 15 minutes or less didn't seem like a good value.

We went to the new ones last year...not the Beast and the Edge of Hell, but the Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe and the Macabre Cinema. The Chambers were only okay...kind of like an English major's haunted house...interesting, but not especially scary. The Macabre Cinema was a ton of fun, and definitely took longer than 15 minutes...very well done.
I'd didn't grow up here, moved here at age 30, so I'd never been to any of them at all until last year. I'd definitely go back to the Macabre Cinema...as a movie buff, it was fun and spooky to go through a zillion scenes from horror movies spanning from the old silents to current day.

Lots of good sudgestions. I might add:
Liberty Corn Maze is fun
Lliberty Corn Maze
This year it's the KCPL District. Every year it's a theme. KU/MU, Nascar, Royals etc.
It's right next to Carolyn's Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch which kids love. It has all kinds of things for the kids to do like train rides, petting zoo, mining, shows and of course the huge pumpkin patch that you take a hay ride around.

The Liberty Corn Maze IS fun. Last year, the design was the Kansas City Zoo logo.
