Temporary housing issues...
So...the hubs and I will probably need some temporary housing in the KC area until we close on the house we currently own and buy a new one in KC. We've checked into furnished corporate apartments in Overland Park and they seem to be quite pricey.
However...on the Missouri side it was quite a bit cheaper! To the tune of half the cost. However, I'm not sure about the neighborhoods. We're only probably gonna need something for two months at the most and where ever we wind up has to take a cat and be flexible with working with us on a lease...hopefully not requiring a lease at all so we can check out and into our new house when we have it lined up without issue.
I was just wondering if perhaps anyone could clue me in on a couple neighborhoods on the Missouri side. One place was called Windsong Corporate Apartments located at 114 W. 103rd Street Kansas City MO. 64114-4780 The other one is located in Grandview at 14902 Grand Summit Blvd. Grandview, MO. 64030.
If anyone out there is familiar with these areas (ie, safety, crime and so forth) could you give me an honest critique of the area? Thanks in advance!

There are furnished corporate apartments in and around the Plaza. Odds are good they can compare to Overland Park.

I always start with vrbo.com - I have had such good luck with that site. It's how I found our condo for the month we spent in Chicago.
This one looks like a possibility Kansas City, Missouri vacation rental by owner: 2 bedroom Townhouse rental that sleeps 4. Your Kansas City Home
There are also a couple of others.
Don't let the price per night scare you. These places normally rent for just a few days. This time of year, an owner may well be willing to cut you a great deal knowing it will be rented for a couple of months.
We got about at 50% discount! And that was in the Summer!
Also, if that owner doesn't have what you want or can't rent to you, he or she will probably know of other possibilities.
Good luck!

I am familiar with Grandview b/c I live here. The schools are not the best, but the complex is very nice. You are close to Belton, MO where there is lots of shopping, you are also close to 150 Hwy and Stateline where there are more shops. Lee's Summit is not far either, just further east on 150. I think they also have a golf course, if you all are into golf at all.
Windsong is an older complex. I've never been in it either, but it is in an excellent location. Just about the best place in my opinion to be in KC. It would be in Center School district, not sure of exact school. It is in a more commercial area, but there are several other rental complexes close that I know are very nice. It is close to all the shopping in Leawood off of Stateline. It's also relatively close to Waldo/ Brookside. And you would also be close to Lee's Summit.
VRBO is a good alternative. I use them for our family vacations every year and given the economy I am sure people would be willing to negotiate.

Check with a realtor to see if they know of any homes on the market where the owners have already moved out....that you can rent for a very short term. If you truly only need a place for a couple months chances are it is not going to be sold until you're ready to get out.

That was an extremely helpful post! Thank you so much for the information! I just really don't want to be in a high crime area, nor do I want to live in a "crack house" sort of atmosphere! That's why I was asking about these areas prior to making a commitment anywhere. I just didn't want to get into a place where the local headlines in the newspaper would read "Murder and drug deals the norm at ..."...LOLOLOLOL!!!!!
I don't really mind an older complex as long as it's well maintained. I mean...this is going to be very temporary. The school district really isn't important to us as our kids are grown and gone. The main issue is having a safe area. So between the two places mentioned, which one would you consider the safest?
Again, thank you so much for your input!
The VRBO thing sounds like an interesting option to check out as well. We need to come up with something pretty quick, cause the hubby's first day at the Kansas plant is on Oct. 5. And something furnished is a must cause our furniture will still either be in Tennessee, or in storage at that point. I'm hoping to have something booked by early next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
