Never thought about it that way, but you are right. I live in Platte along Barry Rd. There are more BMW's/Lexus SUV's/Volvos etc in Platte County. Clay County is much more blue collar (especially Gladstone). Heavy pickup truck presence.

As far as I'm concerned, cops make good neighbors!

I have no problem with blue collar folks at all! They're the ones who build our cities, infrastructure and the neighborhoods we live in. Although my husband is now white collar, he was in skilled trades for about 13 years prior. We can float with the best of 'em...white or blue.

Thanks for the info!

Agree. I keep wondering why the blue collar comments keep coming up like there i something wrong with being blue collar. Funny thing is I grew up in Liberty, as I mentioned many times before. It's been called blue collar on this board before, but the thing I will say about Liberty is that I had classes with kids of CEO's of major companies around the city and class with children whose parents didn't have much. I was right in the middle and EVERYONE was treated the same. I loved that and miss that when I take my children to school in Brookside everyday.

Liberty is a very safe city, it has lots of cops, the response times are awesome, and minus the one time around Christmas some "Drunk" got the wrong apartment and I held a sword to him while i called the police, its been quiet and calm. Minus the occasional fire, or car accident, its very safe and nice. Also blue/white collar doesn't really matter, they are all people and each of them with different personalities. Its only a job, its not who you are, its what you do. ^_~ I wouldn't go Independence area the crime rates there are a lot higher than north of the river. But if you must have an almost ZERO crime rate, go find a house in Orrick lol...

North of the river is great, especially if you like a suburban setting. Liberty is a fantastic town.
There are a few areas north of the river that aren't exactly crime-free, however.
I'd guess that the crime rate in Independence is virtually no different than much of southern Clay County.
Good grief, the crime rate in Independence is IDENTICAL to that of Merriam, Kansas.
But that doesn't matter.
It's still Independence. It's icky and it stinks and we're not supposed to like it. We don't know why we're not supposed to like it, but that's the way it is and people who live in Independence should just give up and move to Blue Springs or Grain Valley or Oak Grove or Odessa or Jeff City or Indiana.
Independence is just horrible.
Crysler and 39th will never get redone, dog parks will never be built, bike trails connecting the city's largest parks won't get off the ground, half the city will forever be in the Kansas City school district, a new hospital is a pipe dream, the square will never be revitalized, Independence Center will remain a crumbling mess like every other indoor mall in the area, that hockey arena idea won't get past city council... oh, wait, now I'm just full of crap.

I've lived in Independence for 5 years now, and never have been a victim of even the slightest of crimes. I've left my car doors unlocked overnight numerous times. I never see creepy people rolling down the street casing the joint.
In fact, the people I see in Independence look a lot like the people I see in other parts of the metro. But that can't be right. My eyes are surely deceiving me.

I dont know if that is necessarily accurate. The more accurate assessment is that the further north you get, the more blue collar it gets. For example, in Clay County when you get into Liberty, Kearney, Excelsior it will be more blue collar. However, the KC portion as well as Gladstone and other parts more south will be white collar. When it comes to Platte County. Platte City is going to be mainly blue collar while the Kansas City and Parkville are of Platte will be mainly white collar.
