We spent a year looking at homes in the "northland" (nobody calls it Clay or Platte BTW), and I never once even thought about looking up crime stats. Not once.

If you are that worried about crime, you might re-consider living in a metro area and move out to the country. .

Call me silly, but I thought crime was always an issue when someone was considering buying a home and plunking down a large sum of money for an investment!

To me it seems strange that anyone making an investment in a home wouldn't look up crime statistics for the area they are considering buying.

To me it just seems a matter of practicality and good financial planning to invest in a place with low crime.

Cause it's a safe area. There is simply nothing to worry about, especially in areas with houses priced in the range you are looking at.

I agree...no need to get too worked up about crime in the vast majority of areas in the Northland.

I live right in the middle of the Northland. I never lock my cars and I leave my house unlocked at times. I have never once had an issue at my house. I will run and walk around my neighborhood at any time of night and not worry about a thing. So does my wife.

The only time I have been victim of a robbery in the Northland is when I was living in an apartment at Barry Rd and 169 Hwy. I had a break-in there. The guy that did it was from KCK and would come up and hit many at a time. You are always at risk for a break-in at an apartment though regardless of where it is. Robbers love them because there are lots of residences close together and no one knows who is suppose to be there and who isnt.

Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that so many cops and firefighters live north of the river.

Because the city of KCMO requires all city employees to live in the city limits, most of the employees live north of the river where the public schools are better, it’s more suburban, better shopping etc.

There are areas of the Northland like Shoal Creek and areas outside of Parkville that have a ridiculous amount of cops living in the neighborhoods because of this. At the very least, it could give you a piece of mind.

All the housing divisions in the Shoal Creek area have a ton of cops living in them. I was in Benson Place this last weekend and I counted 7 cop cars and 4 Fire department SUVs.

I live in the Northland currently so I can attest to its safety. It is very White with a definite blue-collar presence (although I think that is changing). Lots of pickup trucks. Johnson County has more of a white-collar feel (I lived there after initially moving to KC). Both are safe areas, however.

^ Do you live in Clay or Platte? I have always thought the 29 corridor was more white collar with more beamers while the 35 corridor is more blue collar with the F-150s.
