Yasadora,

You and your husband sound like us and what we are looking for. My husband has also been offered a job in the KS area and we know nothing about the place. We are also empty nesters, but with a dog and jewish. We are coming from Indy, where there is not much as far as a huge choice of places to eat other then chains (this is the chain capital), or not great shopping or much diversity. There are no temples in our area, which is ok, but people look at me as an oddity and know nothing about the religion. We are not religous in anyway, but it is more a culture thing to maybe be in an area that we are not looked at as odd.

I am not sure when you originally posted, but what area did you end up finding a place? My husband is from the D.C area and me L.A so we like diversity in food choices and cultures. But we also what a nice neighborhood, with a community feel, it is so hard to make friends when you are older and come into a new communty.

Thanks

If you share more about where the job will be located and how much you can spend (and what you're looking for for that momey) we can all definitely offer some suggestions, but immediately I'd say Brookside, a safe neighborhood on KC's south side, or Leawood, an inner ring suburb on the Kansas side.
