No, you misunderstood. I've read that diatribe many times, by many people, I don't need a complete rehash, it's not new, it's the same BS.

I understand his premise, I disagree with it. I get his conclusions, I think he's wrong.

Have you ever heard of the Iron Law of Oligarchy?

People in power normally want to keep that power with their family or hand picked people. Does it apply to everyone? No. Do studies show it applies to the majority of buracracies? Yes. We have a government ran by the same people playing to different crowds fooling us all and you don't think that includes the school system? I'm not saying there is a conspiracy, I don't think the illumanati is out there plotting, but I what happens is because those in power want to stay in power.

People ignore things because they are so complacent, were entertained by crap and don't care... What has the government done to insure situations like the subprime lending meltdown doesn't happen again? Nothing.. Same as nothing changed after Enron... WTF Jeff Skilling is probably going to be walking free after 2 years in prison? Top people in Enron stole billions, there stunts in California caused deaths, and yet no one had any significant punishment? Meanwhile a 17 year old can have his life ruined by getting caught with weed.

Nothing is going to change when the majority doesn't care, and the apathy we feel is ingrained from school. Not directly by lessons but the social structure were placed in. Why wouldn't those in power want to keep it the way it is ?

Dude, we are worlds apart on this topic and this isn't the right section of the forum to debate it.

But regarding the first bolded part: speak for yourself

Regarding the second bolded phrase: You don't work in a financial-related industry, do you? Trust me, a LOT has changed. Maybe not enough, but for light reading sometime, google "Sarbanes-Oxley"

Some of the school systems are too busy making excuses for criminals to be able to focus on learning. I also haven't seen much penalty applied to tenured teachers who put in a half assed effort. Around St. Louis, we've had 4 cases where black students brutally beat whites on school buses in the past couple of months and we can't even get them to apply serious discipline. No one can learn anything when the inmates are running the asylum. In some cases public schools are actually pretty good, though. I don't think you can generalize very easily. The school systems are so tied down in red tape there is probably very little they can do other than pray for good parents to come to the rescue (getting rarer these days). Welcome to socialism, it's worked sooo well for Russia, right?
