I am currently living in Texas after moving away from Mo in August. I was able to keep claiming on my unemployment here ( In TX) until I got a full time job. The job is working ok, lower pay than I have had, but we have to move out of the place we are living by the 28th. I have family in <o who have offered us a place to stay because being on the job for such a short amount of time here we cannot really qualify for anything, much less afford it right now. My question is, can I put in my notice to my current job, and then start claiming unemployment again in MO after I move back there? Or will quitting this job due to circumstances beyond my control affect whether or not I can start claiming again?

I sincerely hope you can not quit your job and then get on unemployment.

You need to re-think this. Your housing situation is not 'circumstances beyond your control.' Believe it or not, you control your housing situation. How does quitting your job and asking for a handout improve your situation?

Yes, it actually IS beyond my control. I can no longer stay where I currently am, I searched for someplace else to no avail. I do not have the money nor the time on the job to rent anything-believe me I have tried. It is not asking for a handout as I have worked hard for many years and PAID into this unemployment account. I will find employment where I am moving as soon as possible, God willing. BUT I have no place to stay HERE

'Searched' is past tense, as if you have given up searching. Why?

Today is the 15th, you've got almost two weeks to find someplace to live.

If you decide it is easier to find a job in Missouri than it is to find a place to stay in Texas, fine. Go for it. But I don't think it's the taxpayers responsibility to subsidize your decision.

I am a tax payer, even on unemployment- being unemployed does not exclude a person from taxes. However, that is not the question I was asking.

Unfortunately you may not be able to get unemployment if you quit a job even though you will no longer have housing. Today is Monday, give them (unemployment) a call and tell them the situation and see what they advise. I'd bet you can do it without giving them personal information if you want. Hopefully something will come through for you and things will work out. Being homeless or jobless are both tough situations.

What kind of taxes do you pay while on unemployment?

Taxes can either be taken out with permission, or at the end of the tax year you have to pay them out- you most certainly have to pay taxes on unemployment.
