Okay, I can agree with that. Yes, I think it is the landlocked situation and the traffic on I-70, but nothing compared to traffic in most other metro cities. We are spoiled in Kansas City.

I live in Austin and we went to KC in November to look at houses.
Tell me where you live around here, or where you'd live here if you had absolutely no limits other than your desire.... and I'll tell you what I found in KC to match it most closely.
As far as prepping for weather goes-- you'll want to budget for clothes. I'm planning to hit Savers before we migrate. Someone on the Austinmama list once quoted a German educator, "There is no poor weather, only poor clothing choices." We'll have to just pack away the flip flops and actually buy some sweaters and a coat and pair of boots per person, and it'll be ok.
My kids are excited that it sometimes snows.
