I'm taking college algebra and we are doing a project right now. I'm wondering if I can get help here. I need to know what the rent range is for a 1750 sq ft house. Our situation is we are living in Kansas, Mo and have to relocate to a comparable city. We have a family of 4 make 80k per yr and 10k in savings. I'll read posts and see what I can find.
Utilites, car insurance (nissan maxima 2000), house taxes, what gas, water, trash, cable ect. run per month. Average living expenses, uhaul rental, anything would be helpful. I searched up and down the internet to try and find these answers and could only come up with houses ranging from $500/mo to $1000/mo. Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

I'll take a crack at this as I'm making the reverse move. But it'll give you some numbers which might help. My wife and I live in Metairie, LA (as suburb of New Orleans). We don't have any kids but do have two dogs who are extremely needy if that means anything.
I'm currently living in about an 1800 sf townhome which runs $1250/mo for rent. I pay about $35/mo for gas, $95/mo for electricity, 30/mo for water and trash, $160/mo for cable, phone and internet, 6-800/mo for food, 250/mo for gasoline, 385 for car notes, and 200/mo for car insurance, $4-600/mo going out/having fun. The move to KCMO is going to cost us around $1250 for truck rental, gas, etc. Crap, now that I look at it, no wonder I don't have much extra money! I need to live more cheaply, thanks for reminding me. Hopefully this helps you! |

moving.com has a fabulous cost of living calculator that lets you plug in two cities. Use zip codes if you know what neighborhoods you want to compare. For example, we live in Brookside, KCMO, 64113. Compare that to your own zip code or a nice upper middle class neighborhood in your city, and it will compare everything for you in a long, easy to read chart. The best part is that there are expandable pop up links for some items, such as "average total household expenditure" that will compare utilities, food, gas, everything.
I hope that helps with your project. Its pretty eye opening. You might also try comparing your selected zipcode to 64111, which is midtown KCMO and not quite as expensive and see where you get the better bang for your buck. 64111 has some really nice neighborhoods and some dicey ones, so you will get a more average cost of living. |

Yeah, one of the rare benefits of living in New Orleans. When the water coming out of the ground is already warm we don't go through a whole lot of hot water most months. The bill goes up a little during winter as we have to heat the place, but not much.
