Please explain if you would. I lived there 9 years and found Wichita to be a very progressive city, especially compared to many areas of the southeast. Oh how I long for Starbucks and Barnes & Noble...

We just moved here from southern california as well. I agree that this area does seem to be a decade behind the times (or more) but to me that is a good thing since we have 3 children. We bought a house in Derby and couldn't believe the affordable prices, 2500 sq ft, 5 bd/3ba 2 living rooms huge garage & pool just a few years old and under 5 miles from the base for under 145K, you can't get a 1 bedroom shack in california for that.

In what ways is Wichita a decade behind in terms of things?

I wouldn't say Wichita is 10 yrs behind other US cities. I would say it's 30 yrs behind other US cities.

Wichita has to accept change.

How has your time in Wichita been so far? Are you renting or did you buy? What do you think of Wichita?

I'm currently renting. My time in Wichita has been interesting. My thoughts on Wichita?

There is no stable economy here, which means little or no change.Resulting in no young personals willing to come here or stay here. High crime, bad roads, and a clueless city government. Speaking of, the city government is constantly making errors when something is planned or built. No decent musical groups or sporting events will come here. The city government is now just getting around to building an Arena. Which is going to be the biggest blunder this city has ever seen.

Change is a huge obstacle for residents here. In fact just the slightest mention of the word raises eyebrows as well as voices. Words like positive and progressive are not used here much.

But those are just some of my own observations. I am doing everything in my power to move to Kansas City.

Wichita has long claimed to be the,"Air capital of the world". Then why does everyone fly out of Kansas City?

Well If I had to make an educated guess, it would have to do with the airfare.
