my own rankings would be as follows: best large cities, Kansas City Kansas and the metropolitian area, Lawrence, Wichita, Topeka, Salina, Manhattan, IMO Dodge, Hays, and Pittsburg serve as regional centers.

As of 2008 this was the list of the top 25 largest towns/cities in state from largest to smallest. There probably have been some changes sense then. I would not be surprised if Derby and Junction City have moved up a slot or two.

2 Overland Park 171,231

3 Kansas City 142,562

4 Topeka 123,446

5 Olathe 119,993

6 Lawrence 90,520

7 Shawnee 60,954

8 Manhattan 52,284

9 Lenexa 46,822

10 Salina 46,483

11 Hutchinson 40,889

12 Leavenworth 34,729

13 Leawood 31,342

14 Garden City 28,557

15 Emporia 26,380

16 Dodge City 25,689

17 Derby 22,517

18 Prairie Village 22,072

19 Junction City 20,671

20 Hays 20,368

21 Liberal 20,074

The way I define it, Kansas has two major cities:
Wichita
Kansas City, obviously the KS side.
Then there's Topeka, which isn't really a major city, but has a population over 100K.

And a few larger towns:
Lawrence
Salina
Emporia
Manhattan
Leavenworth
Hays (smaller than the above, but due to its isolation, considered a large town)
