Well guys, you picked a town that by most accounts is the worst (or close to it) in Kansas for many of the things you just listed.
So, think of the worst place you know in Texas....move there and then tell everyone how bad Texas is. ;-)
You might want to visit this site BEFORE choosing your next place to live....this has all been covered before here.

Living in KS? Well, you could ask yourself how many times you hear people talk about how excited they are to take a vacation to Kansas...lol. Seriously though, it's all about what a person is looking for in relation to their lifestyle. KS is not an exciting place and there is not much in the way of gorgeous mountain/coastal scenery....well, duh. But if a person loves to see miles of open land they would be content.
Crime is worst in Kansas City, KS (or MO for that matter) than one would find in the small KS towns.
The cost of living in Johnson County, KS has become way too expensive, and you're not getting much for you money. Winters suc in KS...no matter what anyone says. As far as fantastic weather, if you were to count the number of days during the year you could enjoy leaving your windows open, there really aren't that many because it's either too cold/windy or too hot/humid.

A person's perception of quality of life in a particular place is largely based on their experiences. After growing up in Kansas, then living in Oklahoma for 20 years and then living in Arkansas for 3 years, I can objectively say that while Kansas may not be the most exciting or best place to live, it beats the heck out of Arkansas. On average, the people in KS are more educated, more open-minded, more reasonable, friendlier and healthier, the weather is more bearable and the cities are cleaner. In my opinion, Kansas is an average place to live overall. You can find a lot of faults and you can find a lot of good things as well. But you can live in places much worse; places that make you want to move back to Kansas.

Everything is in the eye of the beholder.
I moved here from Chicago and the winters are short and mild here and the cost of living in Johnson county is basically cheap in comparison.
It all boils down to what a person values in their life.
I'm curious where you live Katie that affords you such fine weather and is really cheap to live?

The winters in Kansas are EXTREMELY mild in my opinion. It is fall right now and still very warm with temps in the 80s right now. I use to live in the Upper Midwest and the winters there are much longer. For all of who think Kansas has bad winters you should just move to Texas or Florida. Johnson County is very affordable compared with suburban areas in Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, Boston, etc.
