1) Is there anything worth stopping to see ?

2) Were headed to CO. Everyone tells us Kansas is all fields on the way to CO.
Where would be a good place to eat before we head to CO.

3) Are there any good antique stores to stop at ?

Thanks in advance...

Well, if you are headed west on I-70 you are in for a big letdown. Its nothing but a sea of wheat fields and quite possibly the most boring drive I've ever taken part of. Years ago the wife and I headed that direction on a vacation to Colorado and it seemed to zap the life out of us. I can't imagine if you had kids in the backseat. LOL!

As far as places to eat on the interstate. I can't recommend any but Salina, Hays, or Colby all have restaraunts and are all on the Hwy.

The only thing worse than western Kansas is eastern Colorado. Actually the drive between KC and about 1hr west of Salina isn't bad. There are some fairly significant and pretty hills around Ellsworth. As far as restaurants, cant help you there. Not a lot of large towns.

There is the Brookville Hotel in Abilene on I-70, homestyle fried chicken dinners. Wonderful!! There are antique stores west of Topeka in Paxico.

Well, it depends on what you are interested in. I would check out the individual cities of Topeka (zoo and museums), Abilene for sure (Eisenhower museum, Museum of Telephony, Greyhound Museum and a couple other things) and Salina is a good bet to eat as I just love Salina and it is the best city in KS as far as I am concerned and they also have a wildlife park which I have not been to yet. Salina is really as far as I can go but Hays, the university has a museum that I would really like to see. Good thing about these towns is that they are easy stops where you don't end up forever stuck in traffic. If there is some particular interest you have?

Talking Thanks everyone...

We drove thru Kansas about 23 years ago. Yes... very boring. I just didn't know if anything had changed in that time.

We are driving thru. Limited on time.
Restaurants & local antique shopping is about all we'll have time for.

Thanks for all the info.

If you think of anything else, please post.

Thanks.

One thing to remember about I-70 across Kansas and I-80 across Nebraska is that the builders picked the easiest and cheapest routes to site the Interstates. Both I-70 and I-80 in Kansas and Nebraska are relatively flat and straight. There are several East/West roads across Nebraska that are very scenic ,Federal Hwys 6, 34, and 30 parallel I-80 in Nebraska and are scenic. In Kansas try Hwys 36, 24 and 50 or 54.

Where are you driving from? If you can take the southern route, get on Hwy 160 and stay on it!
