[quote=margeb;2385269]Kansas is the bomb! I'm 17 so you might not think that I should say that because I haven't lived anywhere else. Thats true and all but I've been places, and they aren't like here!

This summer I was lucky enough to go on a trip to Europe. But you know what? The French country side looks just like Kansas's except with older buildings. By the last few days of my trip, I was ready to be back with the fields and cows.

How funny! I thought the same thing driving from Germany to Paris years ago. It really does look like Kansas in eastern France with all the wheat fields and low, rolling hills.

I left Kansas (where I was raised) at age 18 and never went back. I've seen much of the world, lived in Germany for 3 years, L.A. area for 12, Texas for a couple and Denver for 5 years now. I think I'll stay here until retirement, but I'm definitely more of a city person. Manhattan, KS is a nice place though, and one of the more geographically beautiful places in KS! I'm sure the university adds to the culture and things to do as well.

An update on more to love about Kansas. You may have all 4 seasons in 24 hours!

The last 24 hours was a good example.

Yesterday sunny, 70, tornadoes, summer-like; this morning, rain like springtime, and this afternoon snow-back to winter.

And......we still love it!!

Hays would be the best place to raise a family. The local community is close knit while for the kids, schools are near. The place is perfect for those looking for a small town peaceful living.

You must be in Southern Kansas, up here in the north it was only about 43º yesterday, no tornados, just a nice little breeze, didnt get any rain but it was evident that we had got a dusting of snow yesterday night some time.

People are leaving that area. It is cold and has no jobs and not much of anything else. And the towns get more dinky as you go up there. Salina is about as far north in Kansas as you wanna go! After that, and places like Beloit, Concordia and Gaylord where people do not really live!

Default Hays

Hays has alot to offer in Western Kansas and has a Home Depot as you probably know. Lots of other job opportunities as well.

Housing is rather high in Hays but Ellis 13 miles to the west has very affordable housing and is a bedroom community to Hays. There has been around 40 new homes built in Ellis in the past 2 years. Ellis has a very good school system and a very nice golf course. Great place to raise kids and everyone waves and speak when they meet you.

Housing high in Hays? I thought the only place it was somewhat high in KS was in Johnson county. Even there isn't bad.
