Default What about Pittsburg or Ft. Scott?

I was considering retiring in Joplin, Mo but I get a lot of bad news on the mo
forum about the crime rate there and other somewhat negative things.
I would also be spending some time in Kansas City because of the cultural
things to do there. I then considered Nevada, Mo but several people said
I woudl be really bored there. I would like to decide on a town that has
a college or university. I grew up in Joplin many years ago and I think that
Pittsburg had a college at that time. Also the realtor in Nevada said that
I might consider Ft. Scott, kansas but I know nothing about it. I should say that I have lived in mostly very large cities since leaving Joplin and I might get
bored easily if the smaller town has little to do. I like bookstores and
coffee shops. And by coffee shops I don't mean the restaurant type but
more the starbucks type but not necessicarily starbucks. Also a good city
library would be nice.

Thanks

Paddy O'Gringo is on a distinguished road
Hi,

I am currently selling a home in Fort Scott as I was transferred to Arizona for business.

Fort Scott is quaint town with brick streets and a rich history. The local community college, Fort Scott Community College, is a two year facility with a rich Rodeo Program.

The local library is solid and very agreeable to bringing in special requests. There are not StarBuck shops specifically, but there are local shops that have a better atmosphere in my opinion. It is not Sausilto...Nor Paris, but it is a comfortable small town. Kansas City, Overland Park is some 45-60 minutes north up a brand new divided hiway. Pittsburg is 35 min south and Nevada Missouri is 20 minutes east. Also do look at Nevada Missouri, it is an attractive wee town as well.

Pittsburg has a larger college, still very active and in fact FSCC feeds to the University in Pittsburg. Pittsburg tends to be a more commercial and industrial than Fort Scott with some medium industry, Pork Belly processing and animal food.
