Default Hillsboro or Manhatten

Hi,
I am looking into many places to live and now some from Kansas have appeared. Does anyone or has anyone lived in the Hillsboro area? or in Manhatten? Are they safe? Friendly or cliquy smalltown stuff?
Would Salinas be a better bet?

Any help would be truly appreciated.

THanks!

Manhattan and Salina are both larger towns with more things to do. Manhattan is a college town and home to Kansas State University. Salina is the biggest town in central Kansas and serves a good size area. Hillsboro is a very small town in Marion County with a small College.

Ok, Plains10 - You just took the in-state college rivalry up a peg. Manhattan is the home to Kansas STATE University. Kansas University is about 80 miles east in the city of Lawrence.

Manhattan is a good town; I went to grad school there. K-State offers plenty to do in the way of sports (Go Cats!) with numerous events for those interested in the arts, culture, and politics. Topeka, the capital city is about 55 miles away, Lawrence about 80 miles, and the Kansas City metro area around 100 - give or take 10 miles depending on where you want to go. I have heard national sports casters sing Manhattan's praises while calling football games, but you need to check it out for yourself.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I caught the error. I typed the post too fast, but just edited it. Thanks.

Manhattan, in my opinion, is the greatest place to be in Kansas. It is an awesome town, but if you are looking to buy a house, then you are going to be paying an extremely high amount of money compared to most other places in Kansas (Lawrence is probably the same). Obviously college towns are higher priced, but housing prices also shot up because a bunch of soldiers got stationed at Fort Riley (or something to that extent).

The ONLY problem I can see with buying a house in Manhattan is that if something ever happens with Fort Riley, such as bunches of soldiers get moved, the housing market will crash. I couldn't tell you how likely that is though.

KStater4Life is on a distinguished road
Manhattan is a great, classic college town full of energy and excitement year round. I lived there several years as a student at Kansas State, and I would move back in a second if I had an opportunity. The people are generally open-minded and free spirited, which is typical of any large university towns. K-State offers many cultural opportunities throughout the year, as well as exciting Big 12 athletics if you enjoy that. Aggieville is the nighlife scene and it offers as much as you offer it. If you want a meal and a beer, go for it. If you are young and want to party, this is one of the best places to do that as well. You'll find the town is relatively clean, and is completely covered by shade trees. I came into Manhattan from out-of-state and fell in love with the place. The people who say there is nothing to do are the same people who would complain regardless about any city. I promise you will fall in love with Manhattan.
