Old US40 is a fune rout, but I don't know the condition of it. US 24 & US 36 may actually take you through small towns. K 18 take you near them, and you have to make a short jog to some of the smaller ones. Only K 18 will take you to Paradise,and the garden of Eden
. Question is what small towns have what is interest to you. I suggest looking up the highway options in Wikipedia to learn more about each route You might contact the Kansas department if tourism to get their free package. Generally when you get past Russell the N-S routes are the most scenic. The E-W routes are on the path of least resistance AKA flat Anyway safe travels
