Default Lacrosse is likely "club sport" in Kansas

beachlady, I fear there are few choices in Kansas itself...the Kansas State activities association, which oversees the "officially" sanctioned sports, does not include lacrosse (Activities sponsored by the KSHSAA). Most likely the schools mathguy found sponsor lacrosse on a "club" basis...that may not mean they don't fund them well and the competition is keen, but check that out first, don't just assume it will be like "varsity"

also, some of the schools are in the St. Louis area as well as the Missouri side of the KC metro area...they are all in affluent suburbs or expensive private schools...the schools actually in Kansas (near Kansas City MO) are:

olathe, shawnee mission, and blue valley north (all public)

the schools in the KC Missouri side of the border are:

aquinas, (if the one I'm thinking of), rockhurst, pembroke, and parkway (only the last is public)

the others are in the St. Louis area or at least the non-KC area...

Search carefully--if your son is a strong player, he could be a star--but assume that with so few schools , that most teams are pretty good, because a small number of schools share the pool of players.

Kansas is not imaginative in sports beyond the big three...most high school athletic directors still hate soccer (they fear it diminishes the precious football team). The KHSAA does sanction bowling, though!

I live in Kansas City. The lacrosse here is growing and is still at the "club" level. In the state of Kansas you need 25 schools to have a varsity program for it to be recognized at the varsity level. In Kansas there is 8 high school teams, Wichita has 2. (Aquinas is well into the Kansas side) They do have a State playoff now which includes the top 4 teams. This year the 2 teams in the championship game was Shawnee Mission East and Olathe. Olathe won by 2 and the game was really fun to watch. In Kansas also has a strong "summer" league and starting a winter league this winter. It also has 4 college level club leagues in the MCLA. (Club version on NCAA - follows the same guidelines but are for schools who can not get a team due to Title 9) (Rockhurst College D2, Pitt State (Not in MCLA), University of Kansas D1, and Kansas State University D1). Kansas Does have lacrosse and it is growing.
