Default KS Weather

Does it get really hot there in summer? I see the temps are usually high but by any chance is it a drier heat than the east coast or is it just as stifling? From what I heard most weather systems there come up from the gulf so I'd guess it's pretty bad.
Also as far as the tornadoes, are there alot of them near the KS City/Lawrence area?

The summer time weather here can get hot and humid. We have had just a few days ago temps, with a heat index of 103, luck is with us right now, it is 79 which is NICE.

As for the tornados they can hit anywhere and everywhere. You just have to listen the weather, or have a weather radio close by.

Then there are times where you can see all 4 seasons in one day here in Kansas, which is really werid, but I love it here in Kansas, and am use to the weather. Fall is so beautiful around here in this part of the state, and then we have winter, which it can be cold and snowy, or mild and very little snow.

So, if you live here just enjoy it.

Kansas is both the hottest and the coldest place I've ever lived. It can be over 100 for several days in a row during the summer, and the high might not get above freezing for a couple weeks during winter.

It's just as humid in eastern KS as anywhere back east. Not as much wind as western KS, but still more windy than back east.

Temps are a bit more extreme in western Kansas- and there's A LOT of wind. I saw occasional highs of 115 and lows of -8 (windchill of -22) during my several years in Hays... and the wind can blow 30mph for days at a time.

Yes, eastern Kansas has terrible heat and humidity in the summer. However, if you are coming from the East Coast it is probably the part of the state that has the most similar climate to those areas. Eastern Kansas has a 4 season climate with about 35-40 inches of precipitation on average with a decent amount of trees. It is usually green around here but the heat and drought has turned everything brown recently.

The humidity is a bit different then the East Coast - East Coast is worse. I've lived in South West Kansas for many years and it does get very, very hot and I found the winters weren't that bad.

I'm now in OHIO and honestly - I would take KS humidity over what we got here.

At least Ohio does not have to worry about extremely high tempeartures and drought like Kansas does!

Yes, the people are better here. That what I think anyway. Days like today, with no humidty, are great. You know fall is just around the way. We will have some more hot days, but it won't be as humid.

Hey, just come out, I think once you get here you will like it.

I would totally agree, but where I am right now in OHIO - it's been very dry and hot. Not as hot as Kansas, but the humidity is awful. Kansas has gotten more rain this summer then I ever remembered. I still have family there.

The one thing I loved about KS, where I lived - The winters seemed so mild. I just never got use to the wind that was always blowing -
