Default Relocating to Wichita Area

We are considering moving to the wichita area. My husband is a mechanical engineer and has been offered a job at Spirit. We live in a very nice middle class suberb of Phoenix. I am looking for any and all information possible. What are utilities like? How about homeowners insurance? THe cost of living here is outrageous and we are hoping it will be a little less there. HELP

If you are looking for a nice, middle class suburb feel, I would check out far-east Wichita, Andover or Derby. All of these areas are within close proximity of Spirit.

For some info on cost of living:

Wichita:
The Official City of Wichita Homepage and Wichita Chamber of Commerce
Andover:
Andover, KS - Official Website
Derby:
City of Derby and Derby

Hi,

Just about any part of Wichita east of Rock Road will be a fairly easy commute to Spirit. If you decide to move to far east Wichita, the commute is really quick. Just take K-96 to the turnpike. Follow the turnpike south to the K-15 exit. That exit is adjacent to Spirit property.

Good luck on your upcoming relocation!

Default comparing KS and AZ

One place you might check for tax rates is Taxes by State

I realize you are not retiring here of course, but you may find that taxes are higher here in KS. Though I would imagine the overall cost of living is less.

A cost of living calculator here Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed

says it is about 25% cheaper in Wichita than Phoenix, except it doesn't include taxes in the overall calculation.

Based on what I've read about Phoenix, the cost of housing here should be substantially cheaper.

Read through the Kansas forum, there are a few threads about Wichita specifically.
