Default Driving Vegas to Spring Hill, KS (Kansas CIty)

I know Kansas CIty is in Missouri, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on driving from Spring Hill, KS (just south of Overland Park) to Las Vegas. I am purchasing a car and need to drive back in a weekend.

It appears there are two major routes I-70 through Denver, or i35 to wichita, then some road to Albuquerque then the I40 to Kingman, and then up.

It looks as though the i70 route is about 40 miles longer, but quicker, according to google maps.

Any thoughts?

Also any thoughts on where to stay? I will probably only be able to get 5-7 hours in the first day, which would put me around the Ks/CO border going i-70, or liberal ks the southern route.
