That's one of the reasons why I'm getting away from being a DJ. When I'm constantly immersed in a sea of plain music produced by talentless artists who only appear to have musical ability because of computer processing, it really dilutes the art.

Maybe that's why many people seem to be in such awe of my musical ability after I perform. I haven't really understood that, for quite some time... okay, I'm good, but I've heard people who are better... maybe people's tastes really have become dulled by all of the fake garbage that permeates the radio airwaves and iTunes top lists these days... sort of like people whose tastes in food get corrupted by mass-marketed processed garbage that passes for food... to the point where anyone with a decent measure of talent is seen as a rare commodity.

I don't know... someday we'll learn. Maybe the impending American economic collapse that I keep talking about will put everything into perspective. When we no longer have access to relatively cheap energy, we'll focus on doing things that don't involve electricity... meaning, among other things, we go back to acoustic instruments like they used for centuries. Then the music will only be produced by those with talent. Hey, it worked for all of those centuries... it can work again.

I mainly have music from the 70s and 80s on my playlist currently and very few newer songs produced in the last 20 years. I prefer rock, pop, and new wave from those time periods. Some of my music selections could fall under the "hipster" category as they are pretty obscure, but the artists are truely "artists." I could send you a DM if you prefer to discuss this further

Yes, the 70s and early to mid 80s were great years for music, as were the 60s.

But it was clear by the late 80s that change was in the wind - and not for the better. I remember how excited I was when I first heard "Orinoco Flow" in '88, as it was the first truly great song to be released in what then seemed like ages. Since then, music anywhere near that quality has been, so sadly, extremely rare.

True. I also find the British New Wave invasion of the early 1980s to be a fascinating musical time period as well. Artists like Thompson Twins, Howard Jones, China Crisis, New Order, etc.

I know many that have left kcmo solely for that reason.

Congratulations. Althought no doubt the crack you think i'm on would really be meth if i were to live in missouri....the meth capital of the world.

I remember visiting santacaligon days in liberty a few years ago and being surprised that the carney workers were better dressed and more attractive than the patrons. Go figure.
Good comeback.

Not familiar with Howard Jones or China Crisis, at least by name. Never cared much for the Thompson Twins.

But New Order's True Faith is up there with the best of them. Thanks for the reminder....I've been meaning to download it for some time now.

Pretty much main reason I never want to live in the kc area again. Johnson County attitude ruins the entire city for me.

I love kcmo. It's a great city. The rest of the metro (specifically JoCo) ruins it. They they hate the city but think they own it at the same time. I have zero problems with the people around DC's suburbs in MD or VA and compared to KC, they all pretty much love each other (again compared to kc) It's been so refreshing.

And vice versa for me. I love Johnson County, and I hate Kansas City, Missouri. All parts of the metro are part of Kansas City, including Johnson County which you hate so much. Kansas City doesn't belong to Jackson County. It is KANSAS City, isn't it?

I think JOCO's growth and stability it a due in part to its proximity to; 69,70 and 35 and not soley on KCMO. All of the counties in Kansas that have growth or stability are near one of those roads.
