Is that something like parking on top of the big hill on 150 highway and watching the sunrise over the Cottonwood River Valley? It is an awesome sight with all of the changing shadows on the slopes.

You got W350. It is something that just stays in the back of your mind, and even if you saw it everyday, it would look a little different everytime.

Thanks guys! Hey - if any of you live out there maybe you can give me a tour when I make it out there! (might be July or Aug) I can't wait!!!
kdfrawg - that link doesn't work...
So tell me how this sounds...
I fly into Wichita (anything worth seeing in Wichita?) - is it more scenic to take another route to Cassoday other than the turnpike? Maybe driving straight up 177 from where it begins? And then The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is outside
Council grove, correct? How long a drive is all this? What are some MUST stops? What's a nice place to stay? Any cabins in the Preserve? Please share! I don't want to miss a thing!!! Thanks!

If you get a chance go through the Beaumont area--very pretty--which is on the southern end of the Flint Hills, about an hour east of Wichita. It's a very smally little town but has an old hotel with great pie--it's a fly-in hotel, with an airstrip across the street. I'm not from Kansas but always enjoy stopping at the Beaumont Hotel. I was checking out Kansas this spring as a possible new home and had forgotten how beautiful the Beaumont area is.

If you go south, then east from the Beaumont, it is an incredible area. It is all incredible down there. Most of the property is held by huge ranches. I always wondered why more people did not retire there, I suppose the remoteness of it really. Contact me if you like and if we can coordinate a day off, I'll be glad to visit for old times sake. W

Despite the unfairly negative posts about Wichita that appear on this board,
there ARE things to do here. I've posted a link to the Wichita Convention and Vistors Bureau so you can decide for yourself. Enjoy your visit to Kansas!

Some areas of the Flint Hills received a lot of snowfall last night into this morning!
