It is true that the older areas of Wichita are not in very good shape with some crumbling infrastrcture. Wichita is only growing in population because they continue to annex areas that are further removed from the urban core. The city is not really growing much in population but the suburbs of Wichita are now sprawling. I think the reason is that people want to buy a house in the suburbs if they can afford it, and actually have an increase in their property values over time, unlike some areas of Wichita. The areas with the low property values are not exactly safe for the most part either. The real estate market is fairly poor in Wichita and property values are quite low even compared with the KC metro.

Kansas City is on a distinguished road
Speaking of observations,their was recently an article printed in Wichita's newspaper.
The name of the article is,"A matter of Pride", "How can Wichita boost it's self-image" It can be viewed by visiting their website Kansas.com | Kansas news, sports, jobs, cars.

I think this particular article is fair and believable

You mean the same article you posted here in December 2006? You're like a broken record - bring something of value to this discussion.

We have lived here for four years and love it. The performing arts are fabulous, lots of restaurants, reasonable housing prices and NO TRAFFIC! We will be moving to DC soon and will really miss it here.

I find it amusing that the most of the postive comments about Wichita come from former residents of Wichita.

Enjoy;

Major sports spectators can enjoy baseball with the Royals, football with the Chiefs and NASCAR racing at Kansas City's recently built speedway. However, Kansas City is perhaps best known for its steaks, barbecue and jazz. With more than 60 barbecue restaurants and numerous competitions, it is arguably the nation's barbecue capital. Kansas City serves as headquarters of Hallmark Cards, Sprint Corp., Russell Stover Candies, YRC Worldwide, H&R Block, AMC Entertainment, American Century Investments, DST Systems, Ferrellgas Partners, Great Plains Energy, Black and Veatch, Cerner and numerous other businesses. A new entertainment and sports venue, a vibrant entertainment district and major investment occurring in downtown - a winning combination for a new Kansas City.

FYI;

The Big 12 Conference men's basketball tournament will take place at the Sprint Center in 2008.
