HUSHYS:
Thanks for writing!
I'm glad that Hays is using common-sense concerning growth. YEA!! So good to hear this!!
This is not the case out here in Arizona!
I'd love to hear more about Hays and the surrounding cities. Are the residents of Hays active when it comes to voicing their opinions about city projects and plans? Are there a lot of year-round community activities?
Do people in Ohio seem a lot different than people in Kansas? Just curious! Are the cultures really different? Do you visit Colby, Kansas very often? Are they on a growth-path too?
Thanks for taking the time to write! Claire in AZ

Thanks for writing. I'm glad you are happy in Kansas. Where do you live?
My husband lived in Topeka in the 70's (when he was in the Air Force) and he said everyone in town was very friendly! He was so sad when he had to leave. Claire

Hi Desert -
I wouldn't say I'm happy in Kansas. I'm actually in the process of trying to get out of Kansas. I live in a horrible town. Dodge City, KS. It's in SW KS. Although the people are friendly, there's just not much here for my family needs. Plus it's over run by illegals, sorry to say that but it's the truth, plus I don't see any future for my children here as there isn't much for them. I'm actually wanting to move back east somewhere.
I do think some parts of Kansas are nice tho. I can't knock the whole state, just the town I dwell in, hah. It can be a big culture shock for people who are coming from such states like NY, CA, etc.

Thanks for writing. I'd like to hear more about life in Dodge City, even tho I know we won't be moving there. Good to gain info about every Kansas city, right?
I grew up in California and moved out of the state because I couldn't handle the non-stop growth, crowds, long lines, bumper-to-bumper traffic, etc.
Moved to Arizona in the early 90's. But now, Arizona is becoming a clone and carbon copy of California!
Looking forward to small-town life. Don't need a lot of stores in my city. My husband has a retirement and I sell on E-bay.
Will you be able to move out of Dodge City soon? I won't consider moving there. Thanks for being honest about everything! Claire

Hays is a good place to live in Kansas. North of there is Plainville and south of there is LaCrosse. A friend of mine taught at schools in LaCrosse for a year and the people were very nice and family oriented. I was born and for the most part raised in Kansas and small town people aren't as clannish as they once were. I have friends in Wichita who came from the Hays area and they love going back there to their family's farm. I doubt that growth is going to get out of control in that area like it might in some other places.

Well the culture was different whn I moved here in 1967. Most of the original residents came from Russia and Germany. Today the community is quite diverse. We have a Recreation Commission that schedules events for children and adults. Voicing opinions on city matters, yes there is alot of that. I served on the city commission for two terms and I heard quite a bit from the voters.
If you would like more info send me an address and I will send you some information.

Like towns with a grocery store, an auction house...like for furniture and odds and ends..friendly people, events and a cheap mobile to buy...I am tired and ill, but have an incredible zest for life! Help! I'll sent ya some goodies for your time! Celeste cdonohue2@cox.net

My parents moved to Abilene (about 25 miles east of Salina) several years ago, and they love it (although, anything has to be better than Scott City!). If you like to antique, this is definitely a good area. Lots to do in and around Abilene.
