I guess you missed it that MU has gone to the SEC and the KU-MU rivalry is no more.

If proximity to KC is the issue than yes Lawrence is better. However, Iowa City is surpassing Lawrence in terms of 'urbaness'. The diversity and density in Iowa City is quite surprising. An argument could be made that taken on their own merit Lawrence and Iowa City are neck-n-neck.

Iowa City has some high rise projects happening that are taking it to the next level in terms of the downtown feel.

Both are fantastic "college" towns. They have similarities. Both are, in my opinion, the prettiest towns in their respective conferences, although Indiana is gorgeous and gives Iowa City a run for it's money. Iowa City is a football town. Lawrence is a basketball town.

The bars and restaurants in each are pretty good, compared to most "smaller" towns of similar size in the country. The local economies are pretty strong due in no small part to the Universities. The prospects of finding a job in either place (assuming you like it) is slim as many people want to stay.

I believe Iowa City's economy is a little more diverse, although that may not be true any more. Iowa City's economy, other than the University is based on health care, state government, a few state laboratories and it used to be (maybe still is?) the headquarters for ACT (The testing company).

Several people I know who live in KC consider Lawrence a suburb of the KC metro area, even though it is 40 miles out or so. Iowa City is all by itself, and it can be very hard to get there, unless you consider a four hour drive from Chicago easy or convenient. Cedar Rapids (closest airport to Iowa City) is small, and the fares in and out of there are outrageously high.

I do not think you could make a bad choice. Both are very lovely and comfortable places to live - assuming you can handle winter. BOTH are BRUTAL and no fun, imo.

I love Lawrence! It is definitely a different sort of town for Kansas, I never go there when I don't see SOMETHING out of the ordinary! Very laid-back, hipster kinda town, Mass street is very popular!
Rock Chalk!!

Iowa city has a decent biomedical economy developing now too. Startups and some fair sized genetics firms have popped up in the last decade.

We still arranged for a little tournament. I ignore sports because it kept breaking my heart to see the Royals lose as a kid . I guarantee you anytime they'll play each other, it'll be a big deal.

Oh, and we're super liberal here, with just enough republicans so that one can steal their yard signs and make bonfires during the political season . Some just don't care, but you can get paid work easy being a liberal each season usually.

I am completely not condoning such acts btw. They'll steal the dem signs too though, and both sides will place them illegally everywhere..
