I'd stay away from the Oakland area...and just about anywhere north of the Kansas River.

I think you will really enjoy Topeka, where you want to live depends on what lifestyle you want. If you enjoy outdoor activities, walking trails, and the lake, look around the Lake Shawnee area. If you prefer older homes then Westboro and College Hill are nice options. If you like shopping and newer construction, then Southwest Topeka, west of Wanamaker road is great. My family has lived in the Indian Hills area for 7 years. Fantastic schools, golfing, and easy access to the major commercial hub. Another great area is out by 43rd and Gage. There is the Berkshire country club, nice new neighborhoods, and rolling countryside all over. I would tend to look in homes that are in the Auburn Washburn, Shawnee Heights, or Seamen school districts. Property values in these areas have increased by as much as 30-40% in the last 5 years, and the school systems are very desireable.

Hello again-this is elaine-johnslove2000. Topeka used to be a great town, but that was before the 80's. I seem to leave this town, and then come back two years later and find that it is still the same.

So far, i have stayed away since 1003,' and it seems, thru telephone conversations with my mom and grown children that it is still the same.

If the heat and humidity didn't bother me, i would be living back there, by now. But, i love where i am today, living in the san joaquin valley in california.

Peace to everyone who reads this-elaine

Our son lived in Topeka and we once stayed in the area for two months. We enjoyed the museum and the zoo and that the city was easy to navigate and the country side so close. My son was in a nicer apartment complex and never had any problems even though he was often gone for months at a time with the military. We have considered moving to Topeka since the VA Hospital is there and we are in the VA Healthcare program which would be handy. Any town of any size will have problems which are similar and the better your neighborhood, well, goes without saying and there are always places to avoid. Wind & Kansas: Kansas isn't much for moving forward in any venue, well, except taxation.

I lived in Topeka for one year, and could not get out fast enough. The College Hill area is upcoming, but still needs a lot of work. In my experience the townsfolk were not very warm or welcoming to outsiders, and the whole of the city seemed to shut down around 6. And what was the deal with all the flooding? After a rain, it seemed like no matter what road I was driving on there would be horrific flooding. Wannamaker has a nice strip of restaurants on it, but other than that there is not much positive that I would say about Topeka. It's most redeeming quality is that it is located conveniently to any other city you would like to go.

No, but it would be great if he didn't target ethnics and homosexuals. I think making 5 year old children stand in the rain with signs that display silhouettes of homosexual men having sex is a little bizarre, right?

I've lived in Topeka my whole life, and I can in fact, argue that Phelps is bizarre and pathetic.

If that was the one in Pasco, I was one of the blockers. No nobler cause. Those people looked so flipping pathetic.
