Andover, KS possible relocation - any comments on this area would be appreciated (Wichita: high school)

Anyone familiar with the Andover area? It's another possible area for my family and I to relocate. Would appreciate any information.

Hi Tigerfan, I live three miles from Andover, in the country. Andover is a bedroom community about 10 min. from Wichita and getting closer every day The community is growing rapidly. In 2000 the population was about 6700, I'm sure it's grown quite a bit since then, mostly new housing. There are two highschools at present and I understand they have very good schools.

The business area of the city is mostly along one long stretch. They just had there yearly city celebration this past week or so, called Greater Andover Days. A brand new small (58 bed, I think) full-care hospital recently opened.
There's isn't really much in the way of clothing stores or the like, but there is fast-food, doctors, dentists, etc., and a nice large grocery store. Most of us just drive to Wichita for real "shopping". Andover still has a small town feel to it but I wouldn't consider it a rural community.

Thanks for the info. We are looking for a safe, quiet town and Andover sounds good at this point. Maybe if things keep getting closer as you mentioned, that feeling may change. However, it is definitely an area we want to look at. Thanks again.

Oh my gosh, you've got to be kidding! I grew up in Rose Hill and Andover was not that much larger than we were. I have to agree though about Wichita getting closer - the last time I was there (1990) it took a whole lot less time to hit the city limits than it did when I left (1981).

I moved to Andover from the Seattle area back in aug of 01. It is growing but really is more like a bedroom community of Wichita than its own town. We looked at Derby but with only one HUGE high school for so many people we looked to Andover instead. We ended up sending our daughter to the Catholic Hight school in Wichita but the neighbors all went to the schools in Andover and have been every happy with them. We don't ever plan on leaving!!
