Default Re: Wathena and Burr Oak Twp.

My husband and I recently stopped in Wathena as we traveled from the East. My parents moved from there some 71 years ago when I was just one. According to family records we have many relatives buried in Wathena and I hoped to find their gravesites. A kind man gave me directions to Cowger cemetary where I found three ancestors' markers. My husband and I walked two larger cemetaries but did not find any familiar names. The family names I was looking for are Jacks and Middaugh. Cowger is the only cemetary name I recall my parents speaking of and it is six miles in on a dirt road. Other relatives may be buried in similarly small, off-the-road cemetaries and I am hoping someone can give me some information to lead us to them. I also remember my parents speaking of Burr Oak township. I don't know what the connection is between that and Wathena. The Jacks' were in Wathena in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I will be grateful for any information anyone can provide. We plan another trip back with hopes of finding more family sites.
