I grew up in a small town near Hutchinson, and go back occasionally to visit my brother, who still lives in the area. Hutch has plenty to offer everyone in your family... unless you're coming from a major metro and are used to the diverse opportunities of city life. But as Basset said, Wichita is nearby. People are friendly, and accepting of most newcomers. Hutchinson is home to the Kansas State Fair, the Cosmosphere and Space Center, and a good junior college.

I don't have much first hand information about Hutchinson schools, but in general, Kansas schools rank pretty well. Of course, so do Iowa schools. A quick look at a couple school rankings sites seemed to indicate that Hutchinson schools ranked pretty well... but I only glanced at middle school and high school.

Hello, found another thread about Hutchinson, great! I also am very interested in finding out about the public schools, especially Elementary Schools. Any favorite, any to avoid..? Living areas? Any to avoid there, or is it safe all around?? We were first to move to Dodge City, and there everyone told me to stay north of town! Anything like that here in Hutchinson?
Any help most thankful!

Hutchinson has good public schools. Buhler, Nickerson and Hutchinson school districts all come into the greater Hutchinson area. Buhler is a small town northeast of Hutchinson, but is a well funded school district with a growing enrollment. Nickerson is a small town west of Hutchinson. Hutchinson School District has 1 high school, 2 middle schools and several grade schools. The rule of thumb when I lived there was to live north of 17th Street to get into the best grade schools, preferably on the northwest part of town, if you plan to use the Hutchinson Public Schools.
