I am thinking of relocating to kansas. I would like to have some non-vias opinion regarding the community, school system and general population. I would like to know from someone that lives there now.

Liberal is an extremely conservative town that is out in the middle of nowhere in SW Kansas. The town has been COMPLETELY taken over by legal and illegal immigrants. The Hispanic population of the town is near 60%. The demographics are also rather scary with 35% of the population under age 18. I would be sure to know Spanish if you are teaching in Liberal.

I drove through Liberal once. Remember, the name is sort of like "Iceland" and "Greenland". It represents the opposite of reality
I believe Liberal is best known for its annual pancake race and it has a little tourist trap "yellow brick road" thing. If you like flat land that's hours from the nearest city. I think it's about 4.5 hours to either Denver, Wichita or Oklahoma City, but nothing else anywhere nearby.
Why would you want to purposely move there?

Are you kidding? It's freaking Kansas!
Lawrence/Douglas County is the only liberal place in the state. Other than that, it's all Bush and Jesus.

Salina and Manhattan are fairly liberal towns too.

I remember driving through Liberal as a kid from New Mexico to visit family in Wichita, and boy how its demographics have changed. All the towns along US 54 through Texas, and the Oklahoma panhandle have changed too, with panaderias (bakeries) and Mexican dance halls. Really quite a change in a relatively short amount of time it seems.
I was under the impression Manhattan is rather conservative for a college town. My cousin and several friends are at K-State, and everytime I've visited I've gotten the feeling that it's fairly conservative, or at least in comparison to Douglas Co., where I also have friends living and going to school. Then again, I imagine few towns in Kansas are considered liberal compared to Lawrence.
