The best way to find out about Dodge City would be to take the train or the stagecoach to the town and go into the Longbranch Saloon and talk to Miss Kitty. She knows everything about Dodge City!

Dodge City is a pretty good size town/city about 45 minutes southeast of Garden City. It used to be a pretty nice town but with the arrival of a couple packing plants a lot of illegal immigrants moved in and the town is not nearly as nice or liveable in as it was before. Gangs and crime are an issue, but the town has nicer areas. Most of the jobs would be in the ag. industry, i.e. the packing plants, but it really depends on what you're looking for. There are a few very nice towns around, not in, Dodge City if you're looking for something just outside of town. Housing prices vary a lot depending on what you're looking for and where. Overall, Dodge City used to be a very nice place before the packing plants moved in. With the passage of Oklahoma's strict immigration law, I wouldn't be suprised if more would be moving out of OK to KS, into places like Dodge.

I lived in Dodge City for 7 or so Years...
Dodge City is a nasty Armpit - I moved out because it is being taken over by illegal immigrants. Too many Gangs!!! Crime, Crime, Crime!!! NO Jobs!!!
Walmart is basically the only place to shop, unless you consider a tiny mall with a few stores.
Tons of Hotels, gas stations and some eateries.
There's 2 meat packing plants in the Town. So, as the wind blows - you get a nice stench of it.
House Prices are cheap - and there is a reason.....Parts of Dodge are nothing but a dumping ground.
You do have Boot Hill Museum.
And - Once a Year they have what they call Dodge City Days - rodeos, concerts, etc. That's about it.
Very hot, hot in the summer - Dodge City is the Windiest Town in the Country, so it says.....
Winters can be mild, or just plain cold and windy...
I know from experience. I would not recommend the town to anyone.
My Hubby lived there most of his life and just had enough to where we finally got the "Hell Out of Dodge"
Kids who graduate, leave as fast as they can. There is no opportunity for them.
I do have family still there......Mostly old people.

I personally have not visited Dodge....but have heard from those who grew up there that if you want to see a tornado, go to Dodge!
I guess when one strikes, that's where the phrase, "Get out of Dodge!" came from.

Not so - with the tornado's. It sure is windy though. Nothing like eating dust balls during the day.
Basically - it's known in the Western Movies.
They have roads with names like: Wyatt Earp, Matt Dillion, etc.

Thanks for the information! I was informed that if I ever wanted to see a tornado, I would be guaranteed of seeing one from Dodge. I do want to see one, but only if it's headed in the opposite direction!
