Lots of people want to hire people from the Midwest as their work ethic is by far above the rest of the US. Sorry if I offend others but that is what I have found throught out my work history and it has gotten me far.
Yes, I grew up in Kansas and now am in the process of moving back east again. My family currently lives in New Hampshire.

Sorry, but I must put my 2 cents into this. I'm not from Wichita, but my husband's family lives there. I've visited many times and find it laughable to hear of bad parts of Wichita. Our family lives on the west side so maybe that's the "good" side. We have been all over that city at all time of day and night and I have never, ever felt unsafe. I've been to the east side mall at night and think its ridiculous how this mall got its gang reputation. I absolutely love Midwesterners, and am hoping to relocate to the Midwest in the next few months, but their idea of "ghetto" is silly. Tenndeb, if you live in TN you've seen much worse. You will enjoy Wichita. The west side near Ridge Rd has completely changed since I first visited 7 years ago. That may be a good investment for housing.

I live in Bel Aire and LOVE it. We have been here eight years and had no problems. The houses up here are varied, some new, some older. You can get your pick. It's a safe "city" that is quickly growing. We are soon leaving to move to Tucson and will miss this area immensely. Looking for a house? Ours will be on the market soon!

I believe there were some shootings there at some point. There are a lot of bored kids who hang out there but during the day it's like any mall in America.

Default Moving from Philadelphia, PA to Wichita Kansas

Hi; I am an Emergency Medicine physician relocating to Wichita, KS with my wife and small Yorkie by July 2008. We are a young couple, not thinking about having kids at this moment. My wife is a Hair Stylist looking for a job; I'll be working for the Via Christi Health System. First, we are doing an intense Internet research about apartment rental options (which are not that many), especially in Oldtown/Downtown. We went to Wichita for the job interview and were very pleased with what we saw. The new lofts, The Waterfront, the Waterwalk and Park Stone at College Hill look like great options if we eventually decide to buy a property. Still, we rather rent for the first year or so. Places like The Rumley Lofts, Harvester Lofts, Eaton Place, Polo Club Apartment, and the GREENBROOK TOWNHOMES caught our attention. We will be there again by the beggining of May 2008 for apt hunting. We would appreciate any advice or recomendations regarding these places or any other tips

The apts in old town are limited, old town is limited to a few blocks. College hill is nice but all of central wichita has some undesirables in it, just a block away from old town is a lot of bums who will try to get you to give them a few $ by begging, the drunks sit in the park near old town. And College Hill has a high petty crime rate, lots of theft even in the good areas.
The good places to live are Goddard, about 5 miles west of old town, Andover about 8 miles east of old town. I would try to find a rental in these areas, Old town is not what it looks like on the net, you will need to go for yourself and look to see if it will fit you. Wichita is a strange place, it has a lot of the people who are trying to put creation in the schools living there, Remember this is a town that kicked out he dog track and stopped gaming from coming in. It took world news last summer when a young woman was shot and no one called the police for 3 hours all the time people were walking over the body and taking cell phone photos. There are some areas that I would not go at night.
