when I was a little girl, I used to call those "bee" flowers because there were always tons of bees around them. (or so it seemed to a little girl)

I had a sunflower tattooed on my shoulder because it represented both my wife and my home state. Perfect fit.
I actually saw a lot more of them driving across Nebraska and especially South Dakota than in eastern Kansas. Great big fields of them, just about as uplifting a sight as one will ever see in this world. Anyone who can be grumpy gazing on a field of beautiful sunflowers all turned up to face the sun has more grump in them than I do.

greetings from Penns Woods! just wanted to say that the pictures of your great state are truly awesome. what a beautiful beautiful state! i cant believe those long stretches of highway - around here, your steering wheel is perpetually turned in one direction or the other.
those storm clouds were amazing!

In regards to the river/bridge question I'm pretty sure it is the Spring River in Southeast Kansas. AKA God's country. hehe..
