Hope y'all get the job, sounds like Witchita needs more positive people. Some people just aren't happy with what they got, the grass is always greener on the other side, till they get there. Some people will never allow themselves to be happy no matter where they are, they have to have something to complain about. Kansas is great. You also might be surprised at cafes in some of the small towns. In Lebanon we have a small cafe in the grocery store for lunch and they have great home cooking at extremely reasonable prices. And friendly people to make you feel right at home.
Hope you enjoy Witchita and find all the great things they have to offer. |

Originally we were looking at companies in St. Louis so we would be closer to family. We didn't even think about Wichita. I'm glad we didn't blow it off and go by the reputation it has on this board. |

This board is full of such negative comments. I am born and raised in Michigan, with the exception of living one year in near Atlanta. I have been to tons of big cities, stayed for months with my parents in Jacksonville FL...I've seen quite a few places, and I think Wichita is a nice place. When my husband got a job offer there, I wasnt' thrilled, but gave it a try by visiting. Honestly, the place grows on you. It has cheap housing by all standards I've seen....lots of convienent freeways (no traffic to speak of), lots of new shopping centers, and the people I met there have been extremely friendly and helpful. We found a rental house that we LOVE and my husband will have a short 10 minute commute to work...he's making great money (more than he ever made in MI), and so we feel all these factors make it a great place for family life. More time together and more money. Sure Wichita isn't the height of excitement. But that's why we travel. And living in Wichita, we will have extra money to travel and eat out. People on this board who say they can't wait to get out of Wichita sound really really dumb to me. They sound like babies. Maybe they should try living in Michigan, where the recession is worst, you can't find a job and everywhere you look people are foreclosing on their houses....the weather is gloomy every day and the average commute to work is 45 minutes plus on pot-holed freeways. Businesses are closing up and every day, people are losing their jobs. Wichita is looking pretty good to me.

I'm not a negative person i just don't think Wichita is a nice place it has lots of crime for its size. Most of city looks like garbage unless you have money witch most people don't Job market sucks unless you have family to help through life.

The word boring is negative.
You sound like every kid I ever knew in my home town that always talked about what a "boring" place it is and how there is "nothing to do" and how they couldn't wait to get "out of this place". I still go back there and see them all the time. They all seem happy. Now we're talking about a place that just got it's first walmart in the last decade....and that was a BIG DEAL to them. When I drive down Rock Road I don't see "nothing". I see lots of great places to shop and eat. I see things to do. That's not bad IMO. I do hope you find your Utopia in New Mexico. When I think of NM all I think about is the Desert and Dirt of the Southwestern US. Good luck to you. |
