I would rather have a cookie cutter new house then an older home. The houses we have looked at are 5 years old at most. I do appreciate the charm of older homes it just isn't my style. To each their own!!

I agree somewhat. However, if you are looking at houses in a newer neigborhood I would ask some of the neighbors if they like the quality of their home. If this is a short-term move then that would not be a problem.

I love the older architectural styles of homes in New England, but they are expensive to maintain in terms of upkeep and heating costs.

To compare a neighborhood from the 1960s/1970s in JOCO in the KC metro to a modern neighborhood from the 1990s/2000s is rather scary. You might as well be talking about comparing Mars vs Neptune.

The cost of maintaining the home is the turn off for me. I love the love/feel of older homes but we could not take care of it like it needs. I hate seeing older homes that people can't take care of.

Can anyone tell me some of the newer developements in the Derby area?? We live 5 1/2 hours away and have 3 small children so a trip to visit isn't easy. We will be lucky to get a fast weekend trip in before we have to make a move up. I'm doing all my research online. Honestly, we were in Derby less then an hour so I really don't know the area well. I saw Springcreek off of Rock Rd. and that is where we are thinking about going.

You could check out the Wichita Area Builders Association. New Home Construction in Wichita Kansas Builders They have information for helping home buyers to find builders in Wichita.

If you plan to get a loan you might want to check with a lender also. Loans for new construction homes will require a tougher approval process than an existing home. You can get info at Wichita Mortgage and Wichita Mortgage Refinance on Wichita Mortgage Place or if you already have a bank make sure they know you plan on building.
