Question What area should we look at in KC?

This is my first time using the forum, but reading through the last couple of pages, everyone seems very helpful. I am wondering if any one can help me! My husband just excepted a job in near Overland Park, we will be moving from Denver where we commute about 30 minutes every day...so commute time is not important to us. We have two children, in both elem and midd school, and I want to make sure we look at the best areas for children. Hopefully I nice safe area, with newer housing, and good schools. Any recommendations on areas, or anything else that will help? Any info would be great! Thanks.

If your husband is working in Overland Park, then that would probably be a good place to live. OP is in Johnson County, and most Johnson County communities are nice. They have good schools (Blue Valley District is especially good), a lot of new housing developments (as well as plenty of nice older homes)... pretty much anything you could want in a suburban setting. The main thing to know is that Johnson County is very suburban... not urban like downtown KC. But the neighborhoods are pretty safe, and the people generally friendly and well educated. There are some high income parts of the county where people tend to be a bit money oriented, but only a few of them are obnoxious about it. I used to live in several places in Johnson County, both the older northeastern areas and newer southern area, and they all had their advantages. My favorite spot was Prairie Village in northeastern JC, but I tend to like older, interesting neighborhoods more than new developments. Anyway, good luck with your move.

i agree with old school.
Stay in Overland Park if possible.
If not, Olathe is the next option.
Both cities are pretty good.

Overland Park is a very nice area, as well as Mission Hills, depending upon how much you're willing to spend on a home. Education is great and the "community values" in Johnson County are great.
