If you have been following the coal plant debate in KS most are still against it because 90% of the electricity generated would be sent to other states while we would get all the pollution.
In conclusion, I still believe that we need to develop technologies to reduce CO2 emissions considering the developing countries like China are building new coal plants every week. We have to take the initiative and be a global leader regarding green technologies.
Why?

I think you realize that clean coal does not exist. For baseload I prefer anything besides coal. For an example of a heavily polluted area of the US I would suggest taking a trip to the Ohio River Valley.
Technology marches apace, and emission standards increase in managing pollution to a degree. Will it ever be perfect? Not likely, however I trust economics to correct excesses, just as the recent rise in gasoline prices has curbed driving and altered priorities for many families.

I just have one question for you since you claim absolute knowledge of an unknown outcome in another post on this thread. What is the forcing function of CO2 in climatological models that show anthropogenic global warming to be factual?

It was so scary, I have never seen park's like that, with no lighting, it's ridiculous. They say that people need to get up off the couch, get healthier.... With all the money here from the airplane industry, i just really don't understand. So, I'm on the far end side away from my car, it's pitch black, and i'm just in shock. And I'm scared, the perfect oppurtunity to be assaulted, raped, who know's?? The park's in California are lit up, people are out, what is going on here? I love the city here, but some thing's are so far behind it's crazy. Another park, Watson park, closes at 4 p.m., everyday, in the winter, huh??? Watson park is close to my house, but it's closed by the time I get off work, so I have to go home to sit on the couch. And they are telling people on the new's, get up, get fit, get active, watch your cholesterol. How??Another strange thing that I have noticed is that the lifeguard's at the public pool's do not have umbrella's, they even were talking about the risk of cancer, that the lifeguard's have on the new's. It was so strange to see these young people out there, sitting directly in the sun all day with no umbrella's. It's such an easy solution to the problem, most cities use umbrella's at every lifeguard chair, in all of the public pool's. Wichita can't be that backward, come on now, it's 2008 and have these people heard of skin cancer???? I dont know where to write about these thing's, does anyone feel the same as I do, same experiences, frustrations? Like I said, I love Wichita, but I would really like to be able to get out and not feel like after 4 everything is closing and I have to go vegetate!! Where could I write to about these thing's?
Are you kidding? I grew up in NYC and lived in Wichita, Lame L.A. & currently San Francisco. CA is not all that different and definitely not that special in comparison to Wichita. I have seen Wichita lifeguards with umbrellas. Being you are from CA, I am shocked you haven't protested about the issues. If the umbrellas mean that much to you, why don't you buy them for all the Wichita pools? It would be a nice tax credit.
As for the parks.... wanting to go to the park after dark is just asking for trouble regardless if it is lit or not. So you say you're not able to exercise during the winter because the parks close so early...join a gym. I didn't like running outside during the winter in SF, so I joined Sports Club LA...problem solved.
Saying Wichita is backward is a joke! I found Wichita to be more convenient & logical than anywhere in CA. Damn.... Wichita was doing self-checkout at the stores long before CA. That's only one example.
You just don't seem to like Wichita even though say you do. With comparison to CA, you have a lot more going for you especially if you have kids. Wichita's schooling system is way better than any schooling system in CA by far! Not to stereotype, but to me, people in Wichita seem to be more intellectual than people in CA. They seem to have and use common sense more often than people in CA.

can't wait to leave is on a distinguished road
We moved here about nine months ago, and people here are not friendly or welcoming. There are no jobs and if there is one open, you need to know some one to get it.. If you are considering moving here, don't do it....As soon as we find another job we are out of here......

Well yeah! I grew up in Wichita my whole life! I couldn't wait to get out. My boyfriend and I finally did. We live in San Diego now and we love it! The only thing I miss about Wichita are my family and my job. I had an amazing job there but oh well I'll eventually find one here. Good luck to ya getting out.

I envy you. I do not want to go to Wichita, but I have 70% of my family lives there. I wish it was a place like southern California. Although the home prices there are out of reach for many. If I move to Wichita it will not be because of the area, it will be for family. People do things they normally would not do because of family. What’s the saying, a life is not worth living unless shared with others. Many of the right wing have the thinking of I got mine who cares if you get yours. I personally think this makes them a poorer individual. Smoke filled rooms at the good old boy club are no substitute for family. Even though many of the neocons are closet Gays.
