WICHITA Is the CHEAPEST Place to Live!
This according to a new list. Oklahoma City is 2nd cheapest. Do you agree? I do! Wichita is dirt cheap when compared with other places I have lived and where I live now (Atlanta).

Like the weather statistic, there are so many variables. It depends on what your life style and needs are. For a senior citizen, low property taxes and good discounts plus affordable medical care is important, for a family property costs, utilities, groceries and income and sales taxes are the concerns. Of course with all this one has to factor in salary pay scales and the overall job market.

If you read the article it refers to the cheapest place to rent not live. We are checking out apartments in the area right now and I will say the rent is very cheap.

Our townhouse would probably be classified as lower-middle class. I'm a military man with a wife and kid. We drive an Element and a beat-up Metro with over 100K miles. We bought a 3BR/2.5BA townhouse of 1216sqft, not including a mostly finished basement of another 450-500sqft. The front yard is about 10 X 15, and the backyard is about 20 X 15. It was built in 1974, and all the appliances and the furnace needed to be replaced. The window seals were bad, and for that matter, so were the windows and sliding doors.
Here's what we could get in Wichita if we sold our place.
Yes, I do believe I'll be moving back to Kansas once I've finished the PhD and JD.

Well, I wouldn't actually be in the market for that. I like the size and layout of that house, but I want a 4000sqft. home on 20+ acres just outside the city. After all, I want to have a few pet buffalo or longhorns, hike around and look at bugs on my own land, not see any neighbors when I walk out my door, and eventually build my kid a home at least a half-mile away, but on the same property.

I need to be able to find a place to live where I can have my German Shepherd Dog and my Shepherd Mix, 2 large dogs that come with excellent references. They are house dogs and NOT destructive adults. My trouble starts when I look in my wallet and like Mother Hubbards Cupboard......it's bare! I used to be at the very least in the black, but, no more. I became Disabled in 2001 and all that I made and saved was gone in the year I had to wait for Disability to start. I am now on Social Security Benefits and in the most depressing place financially as it is all I have. (I had to pay all my own medical bills for the year I waited. No affordable Cobra Plans were out there for a 59 year old Disabled OTR Truck Driver). Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you that I am now 66 years old and Female...No Kids...(My family is comprized of my wonderful 4 legged Companions who keep me feeling alive, and with the will to continue day to day. If you can, please tell me where I can live with my "family" on $1043.00 total income for a month?

Alphamom----You might could manage on that here.....
Not sure how it is now, but hubby/we stayed there for 4 months , Oct 06-Feb 07,when he first got to Wichita to work. Had a 1 BR/1 b with kitchen, living area and room for small dinette. It was ground floor, so easy to go out with the dog once I joined him.( that would be handy for you)
The rent was $380. We were in the middle section , where the buildings kind of went around a courtyard. And places to walk the dog, and right along the river.
Now granted , it wasn't fancy, and we were there until we bought a house, but I always thought it would be a halfway decent place if one was looking for affordable. Never had any problems, most people seem to keep to themselves, except most would say hi. Considering we moved here from Miami, previously Atlanta, I was not scared beyond belief.
Not sure about the dogs limit...remember seeing some poeple with two...and bigger ones at that.
this is the name
Riverpark Plaza(316) 265-9471

I agree. Housing and rent is dirt cheap.
Kinda the reason why I came here (mostly cuz of my job). I'm leasing a duplex right now. Two bedroom, full furnished basement, $720/month! Houses across the street from me are probably no older than 20 years old and they value at $150K or less.
I've also lived in Denver, KC, OKC, Tulsa, and Dallas. Denver was bad, KC and Dallas a little better, but OKC and Tulsa were also cheap.
So average wages here are a little below US average. But the cost of living here is well below average. That right there more than makes up for it.
