WICHITA Is Number 2 For JOBS!
Well I have a hard time with this one! Unless something has changed since I left that city, good jobs were hard to come by. Even if you snagged a union gig in an airplane plant, you faced layoffs all the time. I liked Wichita and grew up there but the reason I did not move back there after military was because jobs were hard to come by.

My husband has applied for several jobs across the U.S. in the past month. The ones with the most potential came out of Wichita and he just accepted a new position there.

We are moving from Michigan where there are NO jobs. He was offered a position in Wichita with great pay and the cost of living is cheaper there....so that's where we are moving

the good news is the job market sounds great, especially combined with the cost of living, the bad news, the more people who re-locate the more the property values will increase. I know that doesn't sound bad and isn't for those who sell, but it changes the entire stucture. What is now a lower cost of living will become a higher one as taxes and property go up. It seems this is a win/win or a no/win depending on which side of the fense you are on.
We are putting our house on the market in a couple of weeks and re-locating to NW Ar. Of course with the bust in the housing market property in AK is very affordable, but we have to price our home accordingly as well. Now, that the interest rates have gone down just slightly it is easier to sell, but the prices in AR will go up, so we won't gain a thing financually.

Wichita got boring food and people. I lived there for 5 years. Low cost of living? you get what you pay for.
Please consider the quality of life and your family too. Not just money.

When it comes to food, my friend, it's quite the contrary to what you just stated. Wichita has consistently rated as one of the best cities for restaurant/food options and ranks 2nd for restaurants per capita. Don't believe if it if you don't want to, but you can't complain about your dining options here.

The grocery stores, specifically Dillons, is the best one I've seen (I've lived in 4 other states). And the quality of life for Families is absolutely wonderful. I'd move back there if I could.
Now as a single, young person, you'll probably be bored. Thats why there are tons of 20's who get an aviation job, do 3 years for the resume, then get out.

If you go to chains, you generally get boring food.
I have a laundry list of restaurant suggestions and I haven't even lived there since 1997. There are some great places if one knows the city. I always ask my mother when we talk, and she lets me know if one of my old favorites is gone.
Try LeMonde Deli, Baghatelle, Byblos (owned by a lively Lebanese widow and served by her lovely daughters), Old Mill Tasty Shop...the list could continue for pages. I've had a worse time here in the DC region with food, because DC and Maryland SUCK for BBQ. The only signature cuisine for the area is seafood, and I don't eat shellfish, so it's generally pretty boring.

If there is no money there is no quality of life. That phrase works no matter where you go.
Do I have options? Yes. I could move my wife and 3 kids back to our home town into either my parents or my inlaws house and I could be a truck driver or work at the nearest Home Depot. You know...the really good jobs with the good pay and benifits. No Thanks.
Personally I'd rather be an Aeronautical Engineer in Wichita (Derby), KS and live in a nice house in a good neighborhood.

Dillions? I lived in Kansas - their prices were higher than Where I shopped in NY!!!!!!
Where I am now - We have Kroger...
I shop elsewhere. Quality stinks and prices are high..
---
I say Kansas - lacks quality of life - if you're young with young kids....
