Default WICHITA Is Number 3 For CLIMATE!

If you take the average mean temperature over a year, Wichita is right up there with San Fransisco! Wichita has a mean temperature of about 66 degrees which is about right between the 5 degrees in January and the 105 degrees in July!

Wichita has an undesirable Central Plains climate.

A statistic like that means nothing. We live in NM, which probably does have about the best climate in the nation and yet, I have no idea what the mean temp is. I care more about things like, winter is rarely much below 25 degrees with a few days in the teens and summer temp are in the low 90s. We have sunshine almost daily and very low humidity.
we have freinds that just moved to Wichita late last summer. Ask them what they think of the weather? the are happy with their move, closer to the family, etc, but certainly would not put the weather at the top of their list as to things they like.

We are about to re-locate to NWAr, weather is not the reason, that is for sure. When you think about the snow in the mid west (or central plains) the humidity, and everything inbetween how can any statictic say that part of the country has the 3rd best climate?

The AVERAGE may be that of San Diego, but look at the DEVIATION. The deviation of temperatures in San Diego may be rather narrow, but in Wichita I'm sure it's rather wide. Therefore, hot days are hotter, cold days are colder. Those extremes average themselves out. Which make averages deceptive...

that stat does not mean anythin, if a city had 66 all year long you would be there also. Give me a place that has nothing lower in the winter than 30 and ave jan temp of 45 and I would love it more than wichita. I was there this winter when it was 12 deg. and freezing my ass off.

The big difference between the Plains and points westward is that the air is a lot DRIER in the winter months compared with the eastern US. I find that the slightly more humid cold with less wind is far more tolerable than the dry windy cold of the Plains. My skin never dries out when I visit family in New England even when the temperatures are below zero. The main reason is higher humidity values.

How do you compare a coastal climate with a huge body of water moderating temperatures to a prairie climate and conclude they are the same? Not to mention the difference in latitude.

Come to Atlanta. January lows are about 35-45 at night and highs around 60 in the day. In July about 70 at night and 92 in the day. Rarely over 100, rarely below freezing. Humidity is moderate (less at this elevation than the lower coastal plains) and about 300 days of sunshine a year.
