[quote=Rivertowntalk;57269950]Topeka has a better job market and the cost of living is lower in Topeka because housing is less expensive than Lawrence. The population of Topeka is declining. If you live in Lawrence, housing is higher, but you could more easily work in Kansas City, or Topeka. Healthcare is better in Topeka as there are 2 hospitals there. Lawrence is okay, but much of Lawrence goes to Kansas City for healthcare and for jobs. The jobs don't pay as well in Lawrence.

There is more to do in Lawrence for shopping and entertainment. Also, there is quick access to Kansas City for more. Might consider the Kansas City area on the west edge as you can work in KC and Lawrence is not far away.[/QUOTE
How is the area of town along KS 10 toward Eudora? Is that area growing? I ran across a thread somewhere about Lawrence being added to Kansas City's CSA. Don't know if that's true. I'm sure the locals probably don't want that.

Most of the growth appears to be on the west edge of KC. There is still a lot of open space in the middle, between KC west edge and Lawrence. De Soto and Eudora look about the same to me.

Downtown Lawrence has been losing retail space and adding restaurants for years. I recently read there are 82 restaurants downtown. There are vacancies downtown. I believe the rate is 10-15%.

Topeka has had some investment in downtown and they have made some headway in reviving the nightlife. North Topeka (NOTO) has become a gem in recent years.

The last few times I was in Topeka, I was impressed with the development going on downtown and the aforementioned NoTo Arts District. There are some cool older neighborhoods in Topeka near Washburn University and near downtown.

I think Topeka has a lot of potential and needs to find a way to draw younger people there so the population will start to grow. Some of the development should help.

That's awesome and I hope the rejuvenation continues in Topeka.
