Could anyone tell me which area or region in Kansas would be the most liberal?

Probably Lawrence. Depends on what kind of "liberal" you're looking for. University of Kansas is there. It's the most liberal of the state colleges. There's reasonable access to cultural things both on campus and in nearby Kansas City. The city is the only one in Kansas to have a domestic partner registry. Hope that helps.

Lawrence is in Douglas Co, the only 'blue' county on the state map, but I live in Wichita, where there are definitely some more liberal neighborhoods.
College Hill & vicinity, Riverside, Midtown & Delano immediately come to mind. They are neighborhoods with ammenities that appeal to progressive types such as independent bookstores, coffee shops, older arts & crafts style homes, and proximity to parks with lots of trees. They also tend to have high performing schools within the larger urban school district -- so your kids get exposure to diversity and high academic expectations at the same time, which is terrific! We have a great public radio station here on the campus of WSU (KMUW 89.1) and a fairly decent arts scene for a town in the southern Midwest. You can meet people who play Ultimate Frisbee on a regular basis if you're into that and we have our own "homebrew" store in Delano. We have all sorts of reasonably priced ethnic restaurants including Indian, Thai, Mexican (on every corner!), Lebanese, and Vietnamese Pho places. No Whole Foods or Trader Joes yet, but the Super Dillons have good size organic foods sections. We have several wonderful farmer's markets around the city where you can buy locally grown produce. (LOL and of course, a Volvo dealership!)
In the Democratic caucus at Robinson Middle School in College Hill/Crown Heights earlier this year, literally thousands of people waited outside in blinding snow for over an hour to get into the caucus, and the precincts went about 80% for Obama. It sure didn't feel like Kansas that night!!!
My husband and I joke around that every liberal in this town knows one another... It ain't far from the truth!
If you're looking for true blue, though, you gotta go with Lawrence.

Unfortunately Lawrence is changing. The new city commissioners are very pro business and developement, trying to do away with the bus system, "demanding" a new Wal-mart at 6th and Wak.
The town is very divided. Liberal on the East side of town and around the college and conservative just about every where else.
We lived in North Lawrence and then other people would say they also lived in North Lawrence when actually they lived in the new housing areas out by Hallmark. When we said we lived in historic North Lawrence, they would wrinkle their nose and say "oh".
We left Lawrence 5 years ago and I'm not sure I'd move back. We still visit a couple time a year and see our family on the west and our friends on the east. Yes a very big difference.

I find it funny, as a quote-unquote liberal, that bookstores, coffee shops, old homes, parks, trees, "diversity", public radio, ethnic restaurants, organic foods, farmer's markets and Volvos all represent liberal culture, yet sadly this seems to be the case.
It's obvious that I don't fit the mold.

Lawrence is wonderful. Yes, there are new areas on the west, but the center and east side of town have Heart.
