Default Political Climate in Hutchinson

We are thinking of moving back to Kansas after 5 years. We moved from Lawrence to Arizona and now we are in Nm. We are looking at moving to Hutchinson.

I'm sure Hutch is like many Kansas towns politically - conservative, but is it an obvious political atmosphere?

Lawrence pretends to be liberal, but it's not. Mesa, AZ is VERY conservative and it shows. Here in NM, it's 80% democratic but it's not obvious if noticeable at all.

Just curious about Hutch. I went to the junior college back in the 80's but at that time I didn't care about politics.
Thanks

Default The silence speaks volumes

I'm assuming by the lack of replys that the climate is "don't talk about it".

I guess I better remove the Veteran for Peace sticker before I move!

Kansas generally has a "live and let live" attitude when it comes to politics. Of course you will always have the ultra conservative people who like to make themselves known (Kline). Kansas generally has common sense politics that are typical of the Great Plains.

Hello there.
I actually live in hutch..and actually am visitng new mexico in three days preparing for an august move. haha a little ironic.

Anyways, Ive lived in hutch my whole life. And for being young I have a pretty invested interest in politics. Kansas as a whole, as you obviously know, is a strongly red state.
Hutchinson though I feel is pretty divided. In highschool I was one of the founding members of our young democrats club and our sponsors husband was the head of the reno county democrats, so we were very fortunate to go to a few benefits for kathleen sebelius and etc. and from going to these I realized there is a much larger liberal or democratic population than I thought.
Many adults in the city, including some very prominent business owners play a big role in this as well.

We had a democratic caucus here in kansas for the first time in a while this year as well and memorial hall was packed with supporters, and our newspaper i feel also has a pretty liberal standpoint.

To directly answer your question though about it being an obvious political atmosphere...it really isnt. Its there and its noticeable but politics don't really run hutchinson and doesnt really cause much bad blood from what ive noticed between any of the citizens of the area.

Anyways, I hope that helps! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions about hutch or the area

Thank you very much for the response. Your statement is what I was hoping for "about it being an obvious political atmosphere...it really isnt."

I've lived in places where it has been either obviously conservative or liberal and I don't particularly like either (of course I'd go with the liberals if I had to!).

Where in NM are you moving if I may ask?

I also live in Hutch. With the recent presidential election I saw signs in people's yards for both Obama and McCain almost in equal numbers. I am liberal and feel comfortable here. I'd agree with the other poster that said that political affiliation is not a big issue here.
